Appy in the News Again.

About a 100 indictments in the gambling ring. If they did all of Wise Co. and the surrounding counties i wonder how many it would be.

Wonder if Tim McAfee's son will be indicted. He bought tickets just didn't know what they were. Yeah right....

Poor Appy the cesspool of Wise Co.

They need to spend their time trying to bust drug dealers, drugs kill, gambling doesn't. Our government is the same way, shut down a money processor today and arrested two men over it. Sad when stopping gambling is more important than normal crimes are.

The thing you must realize though is that a lot of times gambling and drugs go hand in hand. The money comes and goes to something. I'm not saying all of it or all of the people involved, but I guarantee you that there are ties to both.

How many did they arrest at the high school? Chickenshit reporting at its best. Why do they always find the school? Is the county running the games? Or are we still trying to influnce public opinion on the number of schools needed?

And there was no call for that. Look what goes on in VHS land every day.
And yes at the school. It was just on the news days. I have friends in Bristol. VHS itself has more problems than most.

Re: Appy in the News Again.

I understand how gambling works, this is one topic I can discuss and feel 100% confident in what I'm saying. Do drugs and gambling go together? Sure, in some cases, in other cases no. Drugs are involved in schools, work places, charitiy organizations and many other events. Have you heard of one instance where the Appy gambling bust had any connections to a drug dealer? Everybody knows what is/was going on down there, that building that everyone refers to has been known to have been doing that for years and years. Ever since I was a little kid I knew what that was, and who didn't? If the state could recieve tax dollars of this mess dont think for one second they wouldn't be all over setting up a place for adults to gamble. Go to Scott County, you can gamble over there but thats not illegal right? Oh yea, the government gets some money from it. What was going on down there is what goes on somewhere in Wise County every night, a tipboard there, a card game down there, and other forms of gambling. To my knowledge I can run a huge card game every night of the week with no penalty as long as I dont pull rake from the pot, tip boards are just like the lottery. One person/the government gets the majority of the money. I'm sure over half this board will run down to Joe on the street corner and buy some tickets off a tip board for the Super Bowl in effort of "striking it rich" just like your everyday gambler is down at the Double Kwik feeding 200 dollars into next weeks Mega Million Jackpots. It's all one in the same only difference is the government is not involved, wait til they figure out a way to tax online poker, they'll have more money than they know what to do with. There are few organizations or events that happen invovling money where the money fully goes to who it's intended to go towards. From gambling where the state gets no cut to the state lottery to non profit organizations designed to benefit children, somehow the money goes somewhere else in alot of cases which is sad. As for the drugs, if Jack goes out and bust his tail 9-5 making a good living and goes home and buys an eight ball should his work be closed down? Unless your saying the gambling was a front for a drug operation I dont see your point, and I'm 99% sure thats not what was going on.

Re: Appy in the News Again.

I have to agree with a great deal of what you say. Drugs can be involved in anything- gambling holds no special brief. I firmly believe that private gambling should be as legal in Virginia as it is in Nevada. It has not brought about the demise of society out there and it will not do so here. People do have a right to engage in behavior that may be harmful to them- whether it be smoking, drinking, or gambling. If the aformentioned behavior is not allowed to injure third parties the state should not intervene. The state cannot regulate all behavior or enforce a code of morality backed only by one religious group.

Guys the deal in Appalachia had been going on since i was a kid. As i said in earlier post. It was just some who got caught up in the election fraud wanted a way out. So they yelled about this going on for how long.
Yeah it went on. And it's not like it don't go on in every small town in SWVA. It was more or less a generational thing.
Was it right. No. But it wasn't the worst thing to happen to Appy or Wise Co. overnight.
Read some of the news on here. Cops more crooked than the one's they chase.
Public officials disgraceful. Several Judges and lawyers with more DUI's than the system allows, yet still driving and working.
Want to talk the truth. It's still who you know, who you blow and how high you are on the ladder.
Justice. Yeah right.
